Surviving Winter
I live in New England, where this time of year is often cold, dark, and sometimes a little bleh.
Can you relate?
Every winter, I find myself a little jealous of the animals that get to hibernate—eat until your belly is full and then take a long winter’s nap. Sounds pretty amazing, right?
We’ve made it through January, but winter is still hanging around for a few more months. This is the season where you’ll usually find me in my favorite hoodie, curled up under a warm blanket, reading a good book.
And here’s the thing—those simple comforts create little droplets of safety for my nervous system.
I want to invite you to start paying attention to what feels safe for you: the clothes you wear, the songs you listen to, the foods you eat, the activities you choose, and even the people you spend time with.
Just as important, notice what doesn’t feel safe.
All of this is valuable information for your nervous system—and when your nervous system feels safer, everything else gets a little easier too.
Sending you warmth and care this week.
