Who’s Driving Your Brain Today?
Have you ever found yourself snapping at your person, feeling overwhelmed by something small, or spiraling into worst-case scenarios before you even realize what’s happening?
Yeah… you might have had your monkey brain behind the wheel. 🐒
Our brains have different “drivers.” There’s the amygdala—the emotional, reactive part of the brain that’s all about survival. I like to call it the monkey brain. It’s fast, dramatic, and great in emergencies. But it often takes over even when there’s no real danger—just a disagreement, a stressful moment, or a tough emotion.
Then we’ve got the prefrontal cortex—our CEO brain. This is the part of us that’s grounded, thoughtful, and capable of seeing the big picture. It’s where we access empathy, curiosity, and wisdom.
The magic happens when we notice who’s driving and learn how to hand the wheel back to the CEO.
This is one of the foundational tools I use with my coaching clients—especially those navigating mixed faith relationships. Because when emotions run high, we want our most grounded, intentional selves calling the shots.
So here’s your gentle check-in: 💭 Who’s been driving your brain lately—your monkey or your CEO?
And if you're ready to build more awareness, safety, and resilience in your nervous system and your relationship, I’ve got a few spots open on my calendar. I’d love to support you on that journey
