Put On Your Oxygen Mask First

I will be traveling this weekend and I am really looking forward to it.

I know that as soon as I get on the plane, they are going to teach me about my oxygen mask and I am going to tune out because I have heard it a million times.

Here's the thing though....that analogy makes me think of self care every time.

If you don't take care of you, you can't help other people.

If you don't take care of you, no one else will do it for you.

Taking care of you is the bare minimum of what you need for your nervous system to function.

So here are a few basics to consider:

  • Get 7-9 hours of sleep each night

  • Move your body; walk, dance, swim, run, doesn't matter what you do just move your body

  • Connect with those people that recharge your batteries

  • Get outside, listen to the birds, watch the clouds, blow the seeds off the dandilion

  • Relax! Do a puzzle, listen to your music, take a hot shower, just sit on your porch and do nothing

Put on your oxygen mask first my friend.

Then your nervous system will have a much better chance of helping you to show up as your best self.
